A GOFUNDME campaign has been set up by the partner of a Wallan rock climber who suffered a brain injury after an accident late last year.
Ben Procter suffered the injury after falling eight metres while rock climbing in December. He was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital where he stayed for more than a month while recovering.
Both Mr Procter and his partner Rochelle Davis are currently studying, and a fundraising campaign was set up to help cover the cost of his emergency medical bills and the cost of the helicopter airlift.
Ms Davis said she recommended everyone pay for an ambulance membership as Mr Procter did not have ambulance cover at the time.
She said the campaign had been successful so far.
“[The support] has been amazing, we’ve already covered more than half the bill so far,” she said.
“We didn’t expect anything like the support we’ve got so it’s been really good.”
Ms Davis said doctors were unable to give an estimation for Mr Procter’s recovery time when he arrived at hospital. He is considered to be lucky to have not broken any bones.
However, she said her partner’s recovery had gone to plan, learning to walk again while in hospital.
He is now able to drive and returned to work last Thursday.
Ms Davis said he was already returning to rock climbing and being active.
“He’s slowly returning to rock climbing, he’s been doing some easier climbs indoors where it’s safer for now,” she said.
“Outside climbing is still a bit too dangerous so he’ll work towards that slowly.”
