THE fire danger period for Macedon Ranges Shire ended yesterday at 1am, as per the advice of the Country Fire Authority, CFA.

Residents now wishing to burn off must abide by Macedon Ranges Shire Council laws, which prevent burn-offs on land less than one acre without a permit. Burns must also be registered by calling 1800 668 511.

Debris is still left over from the storms of June 2021 and council requested residents be mindful that burn piles not exceed a size conducive to their land

Council assets and operations director Shane Waldron said residents should consider a number of factors before burning off.

“It is important to keep an eye on weather conditions that may change throughout your burn off,” he said.

“Watch for overhead branches before igniting your burn pile and ensure you have an adequate water supply on hand.”

Large landholders wanting to conduct burns outside of council laws are encouraged to contact council’s municipal fire prevention officer on 5422 0333 to discuss the application for a free permit to burn.

Free disposal of green waste, not including noxious weeds, is also available at council transfer stations.
