Council assets and operations director Shane Waldron said residents should consider a number of factors before burning off.

“It is important to keep an eye on weather conditions that may change throughout your burn off,” he said.

“Watch for overhead branches before igniting your burn pile and ensure you have an adequate water supply on hand.”

Large landholders wanting to conduct burns outside of council laws are encouraged to contact council’s municipal fire prevention officer on 5422 0333 to discuss the application for a free permit to burn.

Free disposal of green waste, not including noxious weeds, is also available at council transfer stations.
