Priority projects outlined for Macedon Ranges

STAGE two of the Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct and a shared trail have been listed among Macedon Ranges Shire Council’s priority projects for 2022.

The second stage of the sports precinct construction will see the development of a 15-hectare regional park, which will allow for a range of sport and passive recreation activities to support healthy lifestyles and social connection.

The shared trail will be constructed between Daylesford to Hanging Rock and Kyneton and is expected to attract about 6000 visitors annually and increased domestic and international visitors.

Other projects listed were the transformation of the Woodend Community Centre and the reimagining of the Kyneton Town Hall, both of which will see the spaces revitalised to meet the identified needs of community users and visitors into the future.

Also included among the council’s priorities are electric vehicle charging stations, affordable housing, a mental health service for young people and an aquatic facility feasibility study as part of the Priority Projects 2022 Prospectus.

Macedon Shire Mayor Jennifer Anderson said the prospectus illustrated a readiness to plan and build for the future.

“The prospectus supports our ongoing advocacy discussions with key decision makers and has been developed to reflect the needs of our community and complement existing government strategies and policies,” she said.

“In shaping our shire’s future, we look forward to collaborating with local residents and businesses and our external partners – to not only meet immediate needs but realise the community’s vision, where the wellbeing of residents, a strong local economy and a protected, and enhanced, natural environment are high priorities.”

Chief executive Bernie O’Sullivan said the purpose of the prospectus was to share more about the shire with funding partners, and to make future planning and delivery of vital community projects a smoother and more efficient process.

“We are willing to discuss options for funding for any or all of these priority projects, and the bringing forward of timelines if necessary to meet the requirements of any state or federal funding,” he said.

“It is all about working together to bring new ideas to fruition, build a better community for all of our residents and our vast visitor population, and ensure the Macedon Ranges continues to be an exceptional place for locals and visitors alike for generations to come.”
