BROADFORD Secondary College runner Poppy Robinson had a dominant outing at the School Sport Victoria State Secondary Track and Field Championships, asserting her status as one of Australia’s most talented young sprinters.
Robinson showcased her elite pace in all facets of sprinting, claiming the girls 12-13 100 metres in a time of 12.87, over half a second ahead of her next best competition.
Robinson was even more dominant in the girls 12-13 200 metre dash, almost breaking the School Sport Victoria record for the age group, falling just two tenths short. Her time of 25.72 was enough to win by a barely believable 0.88 seconds.
Her most impressive performance was saved for the 400 metre run, however, where Robinson took an incredible one and a half seconds out of the existing School Sport Victoria record for her age group.
Previously held at a 1.00.54 in 2012, Robinson threw all the record books out of the window with a stunning 59.07 run which was enough to see her win by over three seconds.
Robinson wasn’t the only Mitchell Shire local to enjoy terrific success at the state championships, with Wallan Secondary College’s Cooper Nunn also becoming a state champion.
Nunn became the champion of the 16-year-old boys long jump, dominant in the competition to win by 0.58 metres with a best jump of 6.55 metres.
