BROADFORD’S High Street could become safer if the Liberal–Nationals Coalition wins the November state election.
State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland made the announcement last week, committing $500,000 to deliver a safety assessment and upgrades to traffic lights.
Broadford community members have been passionately advocating for improved safety along the street, which is becoming a concern as the town’s population grows.
Ms Cleeland said residents deserve to be heard and should be able to see practical action.
“The people who live in Broadford know their town, they know how much it has grown, and they see firsthand the challenges that come with more traffic moving through High Street,” she said.
“The Broadford Residents Action Group and local residents have been raising these concerns because they want to see their town made safer for everyone.
“Community advocacy matters. When residents take the time to speak up, share their concerns and push for improvements, they deserve to know they are being listened to.
“Broadford is growing, and we need to make sure our roads and streets keep pace with that growth.
“Whether you’re driving through town, walking down High Street or trying to cross the road with your children, you should be able to do so safely. Families shouldn’t have to feel like crossing the main street is a gamble.”
Ms Cleeland said the investment was an important step towards addressing the concerns raised by the community and improving safety in the town centre.
“This is about taking the concerns residents have been raising and putting real investment behind them,” she said.
“Broadford deserves a High Street that works for the community today and into the future, not one that struggles to keep up as the town grows.”
