BOWLS delivered the drama on Saturday in wet conditions, with a number of close contests.
Kilmore couldn’t hold out Gisborne on its home deck on Saturday, losing by five shots, 68-63.
There were no more than three shots in it on all three rinks, with Raymond Jansen just falling to Tim Rogers 21-24, while Lance Whitnall lost to Ethan Higgins by the same scoreline.
Ray Pretty took victory over Alan Higgins 21-20 to avoid a clean sweep.
Lancefield’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end, losing to Kyneton by six shots, 62-56, despite winning two of the rinks.
Kyneton’s saving grace was Gregory Podesta’s 27-13 win over Andrew Brandolin, which helped put aside Shane Ray’s 19-17 win over David Kennedy for Lancefield, while Jeff Holmes also took a 24-18 win over Anthony Mathison.
Romsey claimed a 64-53 win over Woodend to continue its unbeaten start.
Cameron Austin’s 26-17 win over Norman Bickerdyke, and Aaron Young’s 26-15 win over Stephen Pickles, was impetus enough for Romsey to negotiate Damien Ely’s 12-21 loss to Neil Jamieson.
Broadford was no match for Kyneton Golf, losing 85-36.
Luke Gleeson lost 12-30 to Adrian Plowman, while Adam Fisher lost 9-24 to Wayne Turner. Dale Bond completed a sweep for Kyneton Golf, winning 31-15 over Mark Carboon.
In division 2, Kilmore claimed a 62-52 win over Kyneton Golf.
Barry Lingham took a 26-14 win over John Trounce, while Matthew Burnham scored a 23-19 win over John McQualter. Andrew Cassidy couldn’t complete the clean sweep, losing 13-19 to Mick Kitanovski.
Broadford had a better result in division 3, claiming a 69-60 win over Romsey.
This came despite losing two of the rinks, with Laurie Barnes falling 17-19 to Leassa Armstrong and Rodney Campbell losing 21-28 to John Reimann. Barbara Goddard’s 31-13 win over Roger Kozulins was all the difference as Broadford remain on top.
Lancefield claimed a 59-54 win over Kilmore in a tight contest.
Gordon Charles took an 18-16 win over Colin Hodgson, while Nicholas Shannon maintained Lancefield’s advantage with a 26-18 win over Matthew Grindlay. While Joan Grindlay took a 20-15 win over Jeff Smith, it wasn’t enough to make up the advantage.
Meantime, Romsey took a 61-44 win over Woodend in division 1 of the Tuesday pennant, while Kilmore claimed a 73-56 win over Kyneton. Romsey’s win – it’s first of the season – puts it into the top four at Kyneton’s expense, while Kilmore move up to second.
In division 2, Kilmore lost convincingly to Trentham, 84-38, while Broadford was also bested by Gisborne, losing 42-85. There was better news for Romsey and Lancefield, with Romsey defeating Mt Cottrell 60-52, while Lancefield took a 74-47 win over Kyneton.
