WALLAN has been announced as the 2027 Australia Day host town which holds citizenship ceremony’s to welcome new citizens as well as the annual Mitchell Shire Australia Day Community Awards to acknowledge certain work in the community.

Last year’s awards included Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and Sports Person of the Year which will all be up for grabs this year.

“It’s a fantastic event down there, the citizenship ceremony following is a great inclusion as well, and it’s very well supported,” she said.

Cr Claudia James loved the idea of having it in her home town saying: “I very much support having the Australia day ceremony at Wallan, coming from Wallan myself I know they can do a good job down there”

If you would like to nominate someone for an award, head to the Mitchell Shire website or visit a customer service centre in Broadford, Kilmore, Seymour or Wallan.

The event will be held at the Wallan U3A building near Hadfield Park, more details will come out regarding the event soon.
