The Wallan Panthers women’s team have suffered a big loss just a couple of weeks out from the post-season.
They travelled to the home of the Surfcoast Chargers who are very similarly stacked in comparison to Wallan, both sitting a game within each other on the ladder.
A Ranika Guyton 32-point bomb couldn’t help the Panthers to success, as they went down 104-79.
Wallan were on the backfoot throughout the first, trailing by nine points at the first break.
They somewhat responded in the second, winning the period by two points bringing the margin to only seven points at the half.
But it was second half dominance from the Chargers, who pounced on Wallan from the get-go thanks to Jaimee Crombie and Candice Rogers, who both put up over 20 points for the match.
Wallan lost the second half by 18 points, meaning they have to accept their fifth loss of the season.
A fascinating term of events occurred in the mens division while the Panthers had the bye, with last-placed Collingwood beating Melton away from home meaning they come off the bottom, and push Wallan back down.
All is to look forward to in the round 18 clash against Warragul at RB Robson Stadium at 8pm this Saturday.
The women’s team will feature beforehand in a huge clash against second-placed Blackburn starting at 6pm.
In the Youth League, the boys lost in their finals match up against Chelsea at home in a 77-93 clash, meaning they are done for the season.
It was a match they were probably expecting to win, as they finished third on the table for the year, in comparison to Chelsea who finished sixth with five less wins.
