FULLY-TREATED recycled water will be released by Goulburn Valley Water from the Broadford Wastewater Management Facilities into Sunday Creek over the next three months.

This comes as the Broadford Wastewater Management Facility nears capacity, and while recycled water is normally used for irrigation on the farm, recent tree removal works in the irrigation area has meant not all recycled water could be used.

However, recycled water use will continue as normal on the pastured areas of the farm.

The controlled release will see two to four megalitres of EPA Class C recycled water released into Sunday Creek every day, with the release beginning early this month and expected to continue into October.

The water that will be released has undergone full treatment, meeting EPA Class C recycled water standards, while the EPA has been notified, and will work closely with them to monitor environmental impacts.

Goulburn Valley Water Wastewater and Recycling Coordinator Stuart Harris said it would prevent uncontrolled overflows in the Wastewater Management Facility, and protect infrastructure.

“The releases will continue until lagoon levels are returned to a safe and manageable level,” he said.
