BROADFORD’S Taungurung Land and Waters Council will be the recipients of a $1.5 million grant to help build a multi-purpose community space at Nyagaroon, located on the Acheron River.

The grant was announced by Minister for First Peoples Ros Spence, who announced funding for 13 organisations from the eighth round of the Aboriginal Community Infrastructure Program.

The service will deliver educational, employment and wellbeing outcomes for First Nations people.

The investment will support Taungurung Land and Waters Council to build a multi-purpose community space at Nyagaroon to share knowledge and celebrate culture.

These are places where communities come together, culture is celebrated and people get the support they need.

The Aboriginal Community Infrastructure Program supports First Nations organisations to build new, functional and accessible infrastructure – or to repair, renovate or expand existing facilities.

Since 2018, the program has delivered almost $50 million for 127 projects across Victoria, by 60 unique First Nations organisations.

The program is transitioning to Gellung Warl – a commitment under Victoria’s first Treaty. Gellung Warl will establish and operate a new First Peoples’ Infrastructure Fund from 2027.

Ms Spence said investments would help First Nations communities such as Nyagaroon.

“From education and health to sport and culture, this funding means communities have the spaces they need to come together and thrive,” she said.
