THERE were mixed results for the Mitchell Shire’s women’s football teams in round nine on Sunday.
Kilmore took a two-point victory over Darebin at JJ Clancy Reserve, 3.7 (25) to 3.5 (23). The win was a sweet one for the Blues, having lost by four points to the Falcons just four weeks earlier away from home.
No best players, goalkickers, or quarter-by-quarter scores were available at the time of production.
Wallan had a golden opportunity to keep its slim finals hopes alive as it hosted Laurimar at Greenhill Reserve, but despite a late fightback, the Magpies are now all-but out of the picture after a two-point loss to the Power.
A tight opening term saw both teams score truly, with Wallan getting its opening goal through Brittney Knight, yet trailing at quarter time by one point, 6-7.
The second term was all Laurimar, as the Power was able to generate good looks at goal. The Power got its second goal of the afternoon, while Wallan struggled to get the ball out of defence. Thankfully for the Magpies, the siren gave them a chance to reset, albeit trailing 6-16.
The Magpies did what they could to cut into the margin in the third term, but a behind was the sole result of the term, as Laurimar continued to hold out and lead 16-7 at the final change.
The final quarter saw Shannyn Powell give the Magpies a real chance, kicking a goal to reduce the margin to one point, but the Power held on, kicking another behind and winning 2.5 (17) to 2.3 (15).
Nicole Evans, Melanie Hope, Powell, Gabrielle Daoud, Jordan Stanyer and Kelly Lennox gave their all for the Magpies.
