RIDDELLS Creek’s Recreation Reserve could be set for a major makeover, with Macedon Ranges Shire Council (MRSC) seeking community feedback on a new master plan.
The plan has already received community and stakeholder input, including 89 survey responses. Council is now looking to put it on public exhibition for four weeks, giving the broader community a chance to comment.
The plan recognises significant growth in the area and notes that 17 years have passed since the reserve’s 2009 development plan was prepared.
With housing in the small country town set to grow around Amess Road, the ageing recreation facilities are proposed to be expanded and partly replaced.
The report to the MRSC’s September meeting said: “Given the age of the existing plan and the future infrastructure requirements identified through the Amess Road Precinct Structure Plan and Development Contributions Plan, a new Master Plan is required to guide the long-term development of the reserve.”
The proposals include two new netball courts, another sports oval, two additional tennis courts, more parking, the relocation of the Macedon Ranges Obedience Dog Club, a new space for play and active recreation, and upgrades to the existing leisure centre indoor court.
Although the plan is intended to guide long-term development, it represents a significant step towards new facilities at Riddells Creek.
“It is a long-term plan. It’s not going to happen overnight. So, just be patient,” Cr Dominic Bonanno said at the September council meeting.
Mayor Cr Cassy Borthwick welcomed the plan, saying it was an exciting time for the Riddells Creek community. She noted that, although it was a long-term plan, “it’s the little wins along the way to get to the long-term destination.”
