A SLOW start cost a youthful Kilmore in its Northern Football Netball League 33-point loss to Reservoir on Saturday afternoon at Crispe Park.
The Blues were no match in the early stages for a Reservoir team that boasted the likes of Trent Cotchin and Bachar Houli, and it was the duo’s experience that helped get the Mustangs five goals in the opening quarter, compared to a solitary effort for the Blues, seeing the margin 28 points at the opening break, 35-7.
Kilmore fought hard in the second quarter and ended up winning the quarter by kicking four goals to the Mustangs’ three, but it was still a big ask for the Blues at the main break, trailing 32-55.
The Blues did get as close as 17 points during the third quarter, with Jaden Smith providing a spark by kicking two goals for the term, but it just seemed that Reservoir constantly had all the answers, extending the lead slightly to 27 points as the two teams turned for home, with the score sitting at 77-50.
Kilmore kicked two of the first three of the last term to give itself a glimmer of hope, but it was to no avail, with Reservoir winning 14.13 (97) to 10.4 (64).
Josh Coe providing plenty of chances for the Blues’ midfield in a best-on-ground performance for Kilmore, with Ryan Bailey, Darcy Baldwin-Potton, William Bowshall-Tanner, Lachlan Peggie and Ryan Knight giving a glimpse into the bright future the club has.
The Blues will be looking to stay in touch this week, hosting Kinglake at home.
