Whittlesea View Club visits Kinglake Historical Society

MEMBERS of the Whittlesea View Club were welcomed by the Kinglake Historical Society recently, where they enjoyed a fascinating journey through local history and a taste of country hospitality.

The group toured the Kinglake Heritage Centre, a space that has become a significant hub for preserving and sharing the stories of the region. Members were guided through displays that capture the history of Kinglake from its early beginnings in the 1830s through to the present day. The exhibits highlight the resilience and spirit of the community, showcasing artefacts, photographs and documents that tell the stories of settlers, bushfires, farming life, and the growth of the township over nearly two centuries.

After the tour, visitors were treated to a ‘country style’ morning tea, with homemade treats served by volunteers. The relaxed setting gave members the opportunity to reflect on what they had seen and to learn more about the work of the Historical Society.

Members commented on the incredible effort that has gone into building and maintaining the Heritage Centre, describing it as a “treasure trove of history” and a real credit to the dedicated committee of volunteers who keep local history alive.

The Whittlesea View Club, which is part of the national VIEW network supporting disadvantaged children through the Smith Family, regularly organises outings that foster friendship, education and community connections. Their visit to Kinglake was not only a social occasion but also an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the region’s European heritage.
