ACROSS September, Mitchell Shire residents may be impacted by construction works around the Inland Rail corridor upgrade on the Melbourne to Albury train line.

In one of Broadford’s most historic moments, contractor, John Holland will demolish the existing Hamilton Street bridge, built in 1896.

There will be a 48-hour full road closure of Hamilton Street between 7am Saturday,  September 13 and 7am Monday, September 15.

For safety reasons, an arterial detour will be created via Sunday Creek Road, or the Hume Freeway while pedestrians can continue to use the detour available via the Broadford train station.

Inland Rail advises that commuters need to allow an additional 30 minutes travel time during peak periods or 20 minutes otherwise.

To ease traffic congestion on High Street, a left turn only direction has been placed at the Hamilton Street (north) onto High Street intersections.

Inland Rail has also advised that there will be an increase in construction vehicles on High Street, Dairy Lane, Ferguson Street East and Powlett Street South.

At Short Street, long term, but temporary traffic changes are expected.

Additional traffic management will be in place between Thursday, September 4 and Saturday September 6 as there will be site deliveries and storage arrangements of its new bridge beams.

The project will see excavations being made along with the construction of a retaining wall all in preparation to lower the track.

Residents may notice some noise and vibration with round-the-clock works taking place across five nights from Friday, September 12, at 7pm to Wednesday, 17 September at 6pm.

There will also be an increase in construction vehicles moving around Sutherland, Jamieson and Rupert Street.

Detours are ready to be set up from mid-September when Short Street access from Rupert and Sutherland Streets is temporarily closed.

Marchbanks Road

Hume Freeway, High Street and Marchbanks Road residents may experience some noise and vibration as contractors prepare the site for Bridge works.

Similar to the Hamilton Street Bridge; the construction of the crane pad, removal of overhead wires and partial demolition of the existing bridges retaining wall will commence.

Works will take place between Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14 between 7am and 6pm during a 60-hour rail possession.

Round the clock works will be performed between Monday, September 15, 7am and  Wednesday, September 17 at 5pm.

Inland Rail advises there will be traffic management and reduced road speed signage set up in the area.

Wandong

In preparation for the construction of Wandong’s new bridge, Inland Rail has advised that the contractor, John Holland will be adjusting the traffic management and even reducing road speeds in the area as they relocate machinery and realign sections of the Broadford-Wandong Road.

Residents and road users will see the installation of concrete barriers along Broadford-Wandong Road and the construction of a temporary access road which will run parallel with the Broadford -Wandong Road.

Other works in the area include the construction of piling pads and drainage works.

Nearby residents may notice some noise and vibration with round-the-clock works taking place between Saturday, September 13, 7am and Sunday, 14 September at 6pm.

Seymour

In preparations for lowering the tracks under the Hume Freeway bridge at Seymour, construction workers will begin to excavate and continue the utility relocation and signalling works.

The worksite is on the north side of Seymour’s Hume Highway and Goulburn Valley Highway intersections, and Inland Rail advises residents that there will be additional construction crews and vehicles around the site between Saturday, September 13, 7am and Sunday, September 14, 7pm.

Crews will be upgrading access to tracks and trimming or removing approved vegetation, installing delineation fencing and hardstands and also receiving deliveries.

Inland Rail corridor projects introduce traffic management and reduced speed limits for Workplace Occupational Health and Safety Requirements and usually works are performed Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm and on Saturdays 7am to 1pm.

Works can however, be impacted by weather and in this event cancelled at short notice and rescheduled.

Inland Rail thanks the community for their patience and co operation and extends a warm welcome for residents with concerns to email, inlandrailvic@inlandrail.com.au or call 1800 732 761.
