THE Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub is one step closer to reality, with the awarding of a design contract at the last Mitchell Shire Council (MSC) meeting.
Canvas Projects were awarded the task after a public tender process which proved to be competitive.
Designed to become a key element of the region, the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub would bring community and health services together.
The first stage of the Hub became possible thanks to a $15 million grant from the Federal Government’s Growing Regions Program, along with a $2 million contribution from the MSC, and it will be a two-storey facility which is due to open in early 2027.
Included will be a new library, community learning spaces, multipurpose community meeting rooms for activities and events, a café, a health hub, and landscaped outdoor areas.
MSC Mayor Councillor John Dougall said it was a historic step to ensure Seymour could have the long-term vision it needed.
“The Hub will create a vibrant central space where our residents can connect, learn, access vital services, and support their health and wellbeing throughout their lives,” he said.
“This project has been shaped by extensive community consultation and collaboration with our service partners, and we are thrilled to see it progressing.
“We received fantastic feedback from the community during consultation in 2024, and this input will guide the detailed design to ensure the Hub truly meets the needs of our region.”
An opportunity for community feedback will be afforded in mid-2025, with the detailed design contract due for completion by November.
