KILMORE’S promotion to the second division has started with a loss, with Fitzroy Stars recording a 60-point win in the Northern Football Netball League women’s competition.
The Blues looked to make a positive start but were unable to make the most of its opportunities in the first quarter as it recorded just four behinds, while the Stars kicked three goals to lead 19-4.
The second quarter was the key game breaker for the Stars, who kicked five goals to one to take complete control of the game. As a result, the Stars would lead by 43 points at the main break, with the job effectively done, 54-11.
Kilmore made an excellent fist of the third quarter as it continued to adjust to the pace, kicking two goals to keep on track with the Stars.
Fitzroy, however, extended its lead to 46 points by the final change, leading 69-23.
The Stars again had a good run in the last term to kick three goals to one, eventually recording a 10-goal win, 13.11 (89) to 4.5 (29).
Jenaya Stewart kicked two goals for the Blues, while Kristy Nunn, Chiara Nardo, Macey Kubeil, Tahlia Pyle, Ella Stewart and Alexis Knight were all named in the best.
Wallan were also unsuccessful, dropping out of the top four of division three thanks to a 23-point loss to Heidelberg West.
In a tight opening term, both teams kicked one goal apiece, with Heidelberg West peppering the goals to lead 11-7 at the first change.
The Hawks got its game going in the second term, scoring two goals to one to open up the margin, leading by 14 points at the main break, 27-13.
Wallan did what it could to try and cut into the margin, but whatever they tried, Heidelberg West always seemed to have a response, and the end result was a 21-point lead at the final change, 40-19.
In a gritty final term, neither team were able to find a goal, with just two behinds recorded from the Hawks, as it eventually won 5.12 (42) to 3.1 (19).
Krystal Draper, Emily Frankenberg, Ava Borg, Jardan Stanyer, Shannyn Powell and Chelsea Paton were all named in the best for the Magpies.
Wallan will look to bounce back with a victory when it travels to Crispe Park for a matchup against Reservoir this week, while Kilmore will travel to AH Capp Reserve to play Darebin.
