TWO special handpicked musicians, Niels Bijl and Meredith Beardmore, join with Peter Hagen to play a programme with music by the popular baroque composers, Handel and Telemann.
Niels Bijl hails from The Netherlands where he performed with major orchestras and organised music festivals. He has the rare talent of making the classical saxophone sound like it belongs in the classical and baroque eras.
Meredith Beardmore performs mostly on historical flute with orchestras and chamber music groups throughout Australia. Her flute is a wooden flute with no keys copied from 18th century original flutes. In addition, as an adept folk musician she brings engaging folk elements into her classical music.
In a sense a fusion concert, Peter Hagen will surround these two musicians with harmonies and a great bass line on his authentic copy of an 18th century harpsichord. A programme of Telemann and Handel Trio sonatas will be perfect in the intimate surroundings of Peter Hagen’s little Concert Hall.
In the early 18th century, composers simply loved having their music being played so they were not too fussy about which instruments played their compositions. Music was increasingly being played in private homes so any musical instrument that was to hand was used.
This flexible, enthusiastic and casual approach is what these three musicians will recreate for you on Sunday May 4 at 4.00pm. The vibe of delightful and entertaining music will continue after the concert with complimentary drinks which is also a great time to chat with the musicians.
