STAGE two of the Yan Yean Upgrade has been backed by a joint Victorian Government and Federal Government investment.
Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) is preparing for Stage Two of the Yan Yean Road Upgrade between Kurrak Road, Yarrambat, and Bridge Inn Road, Doreen.
The upgrade will build on benefits provided by Stage One to improve safety and traffic flow through Plenty, Yarrambat, and Doreen.
Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell emphasised the importance of the works, stating Stage Two would be a ‘game-changer’ for residents and commuters alike.
“The Yan Yean Road Upgrade’s Stage Two works will be a game-changer for our communities of Doreen, Plenty, and Yarrambat,” he said.
“The joint funding between the [Federal] and [State] Governments has ensured this project gets done and will help improve safety and decrease congestion for our residents.”
The recent completion of the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade has paved the way for the second stage of the Yan Yean Road Upgrade, with MRPV announcing that the project will be built in sections to allow construction to start sooner.
The Yan Yean, Bridge Inn, and Doctors Gully roads intersection will be the first section of the project to get a facelift.
Work will also get underway this year to prepare the rest of the project area for construction, including relocating a major water pumping station to make way for the new lanes and shared walking and cycling paths.
Stage Two of the Yan Yean Road Upgrade will add an extra lane in each direction between Kurrak and Bridge Inn roads, and upgrade eight key intersections, improving access to local and growing residential and recreational centres in the north, and making it easier and safer for locals to walk and cycle around the area.
MRPV has been working to update the project scope and concept design in response to outcomes of the extensive Environment Effects Statement (EES) process undertaken in 2020.
