SCHOOLS across the Mitchell Shire will be participating in the annual Schools Clean Up Day this Friday, February 28.
Enjoyed by thousands of Aussie kids since 1992, the event’s popularity continues to grow year by year. In 2024, an impressive 4405 schools participated in the environmental cause.
Clean Up Australia Chair Pip Kiernan encouraged preschool, primary, and secondary schools to get involved, stating it was one of the most practical ways to engage kids in litter prevention, sustainability, community, and teamwork.
“Young Australians have been enthusiastic in getting involved in Clean Up Australia for over three decades,” she said.
“They tell us they are anxious about the state of our environment, and getting out there and taking practical action is a great antidote that can help propel them on their sustainability journey for life.”
In addition to the Schools Clean Up Day, the nation’s Clean Up Australia Day will be held on Sunday, March 2.
Last year, 1,077,127 volunteers across 16,320 sites took action to improve and conserve local environments through litter removal.
Registrations for the event are still open, and the organisation is hoping to make 2025’s event the biggest one yet.
