Free camping is now available across the state.
Backed by the State Government, from now until June 30, 2025, camping fees will be waived for most of Parks Victoria’s paid campgrounds.
Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos declared the free camping season officially open earlier this month, announcing the names of 131 parks partaking in the initiative.
Since the announcement, there has been a 115 per cent increase in Parks Victoria campsite bookings, with Victorians taking advantage of the chance to stay and explore some of the state’s tallest forests, most rugged bushland, and iconic bays, lakes, and rivers.
The $9 million investment hopes to attract new visitors to towns all over regional Victoria, with $1.7 million allocated for additional maintenance, repairs, and operating costs to ensure campgrounds are kept clean and safe for all visitors.
There are still plenty of free bookable campsites available, including The Gums Campground in Kinglake National Park and several popular campgrounds around Lake Eildon National Park.
