With the Fire Danger Period officially declared for the Mitchell Shire and surrounding communities, it is now time to ensure your emergency kit is fully stocked and ready to go.

While watch and act orders may afford some time to prepare your kit, in sudden emergencies, such as a house fire, you may have as little as 15 seconds to leave.

It is therefore important to ensure that your emergency kit is prepared ahead of time, so that you and your loved ones can leave quickly and safely, supported by the assurance that the essentials are not forgotten.

Though medication, a first aid kit, and phone chargers are all necessary items, other items, such as batteries, a torch, and water, non-perishable food, protective clothing—enough for three days—, important documents and keepsakes should also be considered.

To stay up to date with emergency warnings, download the VicEmergency app or tune into ABC Melbourne 774 AM via radio. Texts and calls from +61 444 444 444 are genuine emergency alerts, and should not be ignored.
