An online platform aimed at helping young Victorians navigate employment, finances, and accommodation has recently launched, backed by a six figure investment from the State Government.
The $750,000 platform provides users with five menu options: ‘Getting a job’, ‘Getting around’, ‘Having your say’, ‘Managing money’, and ‘Moving out’. After selecting a menu dropdown item, users are then prompted to participate in an interactive ‘Have you tried these skills?’ quiz, which aims to highlight the individual’s strengths and areas in need of improvement.
Further down each page is a ‘Skills for …’ section, which provides users with information on how to navigate each of the five originally listed areas. In ‘Managing money,’ for example, users can select ‘How to choose a bank account’, ‘How to do your tax’, ‘How to get financial help’, ‘How to pay bills’, and ‘How to save money’.
If ‘How to do your tax’ is selected, users are then provided with easy-to-read information regarding how much money can be earned before having to pay tax, what a Tax File Number is, what a tax return is and how to prepare one, among other resources.
Youth Natalie Suleyman praised the platform’s inclusive and well-informed creation, which saw over 160 young people aged from 13 to 25 were consulted during the development of the platform.
“Young people have been involved in the design of this online platform every step of the way,” she said.
“The outcome is fantastic and this new resource will make a difference for young people across our state.”
