Whittlesea Voice Interests and Education of Women (VIEW) Club celebrated its first birthday earlier this month.
The VIEW Club officially launched last year in October with just over 20 members, but has since more than doubled its membership to 50, all dedicated to supporting disadvantaged children through The Smith Family.
Currently, the Whittlesea VIEW Club is supporting two children, with hopes to receive a third child.
Assistant Treasurer Marilyn McQaulter OAM said it was truly inspiring to see the membership grow to a significant number.
“It is amazing to have so many members all thinking the same way, supporting children,” she said.
“It’s helping disadvantaged children, and that’s my aim in life …. [and] it is a social outing for a lot of the ladies.”
To celebrate the milestone, the club had a great day out at the Royal Mail Hotel Whittlesea for a luncheon, with most of its members playing games and participating in a raffle that raised funds.
Ms McQaulter said it was a wonderful day out.
“It was a wonderful day, we had lots of fun. We had lucky numbered hats where we chose the door prize from the lucky numbers … we had a raffle, so we raised considerable funds on the day … and we had a beautiful cake.”
Since the club’s inception, members often organise outings to raise funds, including coffee mornings that feature a donation box.
Looking forward to Christmas, the VIEW Club will be hosting its high tea for members at the Whittlesea Bowls Club on December 11.
The club meets on the second Thursday of each month, with its next meeting scheduled for 10.30am on November 14 at the Whittlesea Bowls Club.
