Whittlesea Fire Brigade will host its annual fundraiser ‘Great Bowls of Fire’ on December 6—a fun-filled Social Bowls Day raising funds for the brigade’s future development.

The Whittlesea Fire Brigade is a team of community-based volunteers that have been serving the community for over 98 years, volunteering in life-rescue matters, as well as participating in community events and programs.

The brigade is made up of community members from the Whittlesea, Eden Park, and Humevale areas, responding to fires, flood, car accidents, and emergency medical responses such as cardiac arrests, among other emergencies.

Held at the Whittlesea Bowls Club, teams of four will be playing bowls on the green, playing for a bit of fun and healthy competition to claim the title of winners of the ‘Great Bowls of Fire’, and take out the prize valued at $500.

Whittlesea Fire Brigade Publications Officer Stephanie Smith said the event was for everyone with no experience needed.

“This is a fun for all event, with no experience or equipment needed, with the Whittlesea Bowls Club on hand to loan out equipment and show people the ropes,” she said.

As part of a silver team ticket, thanks to the Whittlesea Bowls Club team and 101 Church, attendees will also be provided with an egg and bacon breakfast, morning tea, a two-course lunch, afternoon tea, soft drinks, and water.

Gold team tickets are also available, which include beer, wine, and spirits.

Sponsors LMF Global Logistics Solutions, Streamline Swim School in Eltham, and Ferguson Plarre’s Bakehouse Whittlesea are also assisting with prizes, silent auctions, and raffles to be run during the day.

All funds raised are crucial in supporting the future development and enhancement of the Whittlesea Fire Brigade, including community outreach and education, volunteer recruitment and retention programs, equipment upgrades, and replacements and facility improvements.

Firefighter Jarryd emphasised the importance of fundraising events for the brigade.

“We rely on these efforts to sustain our vital operations and enhance community safety. The funds we raise are essential for purchasing new equipment, providing ongoing training for our dedicated members, and fostering community engagement and awareness,” he said.

“These events not only strengthen our connections with residents and businesses, but also enhance our emergency response capabilities, allowing us to effectively serve Whittlesea and the surrounding areas. Your support is crucial in helping us maintain these important services and safeguard our community.”

Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and all donations are tax deductible.
