The Broadford Secondary College School production is something you do not want to miss. The students are setting the stage in 2024 for a musical version of the much-loved Pixar Disney film Nemo.
Year 12 student Liam Russell is playing clown fish Marlin, an anxious father to the central character Nemo, who live together on the reef in the comfort of a daily routine until one day, Nemo ventures outside of the reef. Nemo swims through all sorts of adventures, and along the way meets characters you just must see to believe.
This will be Mr Russell’s last high school production, and he said he has enjoyed helping the younger and newer cast members to fit in.
“Everybody gets nerves, I make sure I’m always just running through my lines. It’s just repetition, eventually you just do it enough that it’s just there and you struggle to forget it,” he said.
The cast have been together since their auditions in Term 1, and they rehearse at lunch times and after school once a week. The whole school has contributed to the production, with the students in the Vocational Education and Training program (VET) chipping in to build the sets.
Backstage Director Erin Burton said the highlight of the show has been teaching the shark characters to tap dance while for Mr Russell, it’s the shiny costumes.
The show’s opening night is this Thursday, August 8 and begins at 6.45pm. It is certainly something to look forward to, with the food technology students organising an ocean themed menu.
The production runs for 80 minutes, and the tickets are available via trybooking.com/CSZVJ.
