With Council elections coming up in October, Mitchell Shire Council has updated its election signage policy.

At the June meeting of Council, councillors unanimously endorsed the policy that advises potential candidates in Local, State, and Federal elections that Council will not allow any form of election signage on any land owned or managed by Council.

The policy advises that any election signage promoting individual candidates or parties erected on Council owned and managed land will be removed by a Local Laws Officer without notification to the owner of the sign.

An exception, according to the policy, would be a community market where a stall has been purchased and permission has been granted to erect election signage.

The policy does however recognise that election signage can be permitted to be erected on private land with the permission of the owner of the land, as long as the sign meets the requirements of the Mitchell Shire Council Planning Scheme or the Planning Environment Act.
