Seymour trainer Kelvin Lubeck has been named Trainer of the Year at the Victorian Athletic League (VAL) end-of-season awards night.

The award came after an incredibly successful 2023-24 season, with his stable of winning Seymour Pro Running Club Kelfit athletes a notable achievement.

Such victories included Liv Attard’s 1600m Open Frontmarkers Handicap, and Cooper Lubeck’s 800m Mens at Stawell.

Seymour Running Club President Blair Collins congratulated Mr Lubeck on the achievement.

“To be named Trainer of the Year is a testament to Kelvin’s dedication to his team and his vast knowledge gained over decades of training athletes,” he said.

“Through Kelfit, Kelvin has put athletics on the map across our community, and he’s contributed so much to the local sporting landscape.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have Kelvin heavily involved at the Seymour Running Club with his work pivotal in bringing back the Seymour Gift this year on December 14.

“We have no doubt the 2024-25 VAL season will be even bigger for the Kelfit crew, and we congratulate Kelvin on being acknowledged as the top trainer in the state.”

While honoured to receive the award, Mr Lubeck noted the accolade was a team effort.

“It’s a great honour to receive this recognition [but it] wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work put in by the Kelfit team who have burst onto the VAL scene,” he said.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to coach these athletes with many of them reaching new heights over the past year.

“Even more exciting than that is the VAL confirming the Seymour Gift will be added to the schedule this season, providing a home track for our team and a great event for the town.

“We’re all looking forward to seeing the dream of a Seymour Gift come to life. We hope it’s an event not to be missed for many years to come.”
