Historical rivals Romsey and Lancefield went head-to-head once again at the weekend.
Round six marked Romsey’s 150th celebration of the club, with the side making the celebration a notable one after securing a 73-point win.
After last week’s sad loss against Riddell, coach Justin Sherman said Romsey started to play its own game in the last three quarters.
“It’s a good tough contest as it always is, I was really happy with how our boys responded from the last time we played, it was a game we dropped pretty badly at home against Riddell,” he said.
“We just wanted a really strong response and so we got that out of the four quarters so really happy with the result.”
A hot start for the Redbacks, the entire team played to its positions, giving their all for the side to be up by 34 points at halftime.
Sherman said the win made the 150th occasion even more special.
“It was a really good team performance, everyone contributed, everyone played their role, that’s what we focus on during the week – we don’t have to leave it up to individual brilliance … we all need to buy into it together.
“It was even more special to celebrate that afterwards … we’re really grateful that we could go out there not only to win the game, but then the celebrations and be part of that,” he said.
Wallan managed to show triple digits on the scoreboard against Woodend-Hesket at Saturday’s match.
The Magpies have been showing consistent four-quarter games lately, and continued their efforts at the weekend with a 58-point win.
Assistant coach Spencer Mathieson said Wallan’s tackled pressure and intent was a focus heading into the game.
“We were up by 18 points at half time but Woodend were playing well & we didn’t have it all our own way.
“They kicked the first goal of the third term but to our lads credit we kicked the next six goals in 10 minutes and held a 42 lead at three-quarter time.
“We won the last term also and we’re pleased with a performance especially away at Woodend where it’s hard to play.
“Our better players were Reuben Rode, Corey Viani, Brodie Gilchrist, Patrick Baccari, Matt Perri, Owen Fowler but we had plenty of contributors all day which was pleasing.”
Wallan will have a rest in round seven while Romsey will play away against Woodend-Hesket and Lancefield will go against Macedon.
