Grant boost for sporting clubs in the region

Popular Stories

Five hundred and sixty grassroots sporting clubs are sharing more than $694,000 from the latest round of the Sporting Club Grants Program.

In this round, the program focused on supporting, celebrating and building the capacity of sports volunteers in vital roles – from administration to coaching and umpiring.

The program provides up to $1000 for uniforms, equipment and resources that improve accessibility and engagement; up to $2000 for projects to strengthen volunteering and officiating; up to $4000 to deliver a new sport or recreation program and up to $750 to support athlete travel.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said clubs, coaches, officials and volunteers were integral to community sport.

“This is about helping to boost memberships, supporting volunteers and getting behind grassroots sport, which is a vital part of local communities,” she said.

“That’s why we’re backing more clubs with help to purchase uniforms and equipment, and investing in their future through training and development.”

Broadford Cricket Club was one of two successful recipients in the Mitchell Shire – receiving $1000 going towards the purchase of junior uniforms for next year.

Club president Michael Mirabella said grants were a great help in the operations of community clubs.

“Receiving a grant like this helps any small community club,” he said.

“It just helps the kids and families to get into cricket, they need new uniforms every year as they grow.

“It assists with helping out the families with the cost of living and keeps kids involved in community sport.”

The Sporting Club Grants Program has contributed more than $16 million to support thousands of community sport and recreation clubs across Victoria since 2015.

A new round of the Sporting Club Grants Program is set to open in the coming weeks.
