NorCen Financial Services unveiled a new sculpture in front of its Bendigo Bank headquarters in Wallan last month.
The wedge-tailed eagle, sculpted by Glenaroua resident Chris Anderson, is based on the dreamtime story of Bunjil, who in Wurundjeri folklore is the creator of all things and is often depicted as an eagle.
NorCen board chair David Wheeler said the artwork would complement the courtyard outside Bendigo Bank’s Wallan branch.
“We decided as a board that we wanted to provide the Wallan community with some sort of public artwork to complete our courtyard here in Wallan,” he said.
“We’re rapt with the job that Chris Anderson has done with the sculpture and we’re hoping that [the eagle] becomes an iconic part of the community.”
Once it is fully installed, the eagle and its pedestal will be lit with a green light from the inside at night to symbolise the natural environment of the area.
