Goulburn Valley Water is calling on the community to help identify the culprits behind senseless vandalism at Sunday Creek Reservoir.
GVW staff discovered the damage when arriving at Sunday Creek reservoir, which supplies Kilmore, Wandong and Heathcote Junction residents, for a routine inspection.
Damage included smashed fences and security gates, while vehicles have driven around in the storage area, tearing up grass and leaving tyre marks behind.
The authority’s water storage facilities are not accessible to the public due to safety concerns. It’s believed the damage occurred sometime between July 10 and July 12, with further damage occurring on the weekend of July 13 and 14.
The damage has been reported to police.Acting south west district manager Ben Gazzola said it was really disappointing to see the vandalism.
“It’s really frustrating for us, because our team works hard to provide quality water services to the local communities and to see this kind of behaviour at one of our sites is really disappointing,” he said.
“We’re sure the community is also disappointed, and we encourage anyone with information to come forward.
”Mr Gazzola said the repairs would cost thousands of dollars and meant funding would have to be diverted from other maintenance or operational activities.
Anyone with information can phone GVW on 1800 454 500 or report it to Kilmore Police on 5782 1211.
