BEVERIDGE has marked an important milestone, with the opening of its first supermarket with Coles opening in the town.
The store opened following 13 months of construction on the corner of Camerons Lane and Patterson Road.
New store manager Lisa Zahra, who has worked with Coles for 26 years after starting as a casual team member, said it was big for the town as it continued to grow.
“Having a supermarket in your own suburb is something many people take for granted, but for Beveridge locals this is a really important milestone,” she said.
“Until now, many customers have had to get on the Hume Freeway and travel to Merrifield or Wallan to do their grocery shop, so opening Coles right here in Beveridge will make everyday life that bit easier.
“This area is growing quickly, with more homes planned and more people moving in, so it’s exciting to open a store that will support the community now and into the future.”
The store opened with a team of 110, which includes 100 from the local area and surrounding communities, while 60 of them are starting their first job.
The store will also feature six Click and Collect bays.
Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell said the opening was a milestone for the community.
“To have this huge investment by Coles is a positive sign for our community. To be able to shop for your groceries and needs locally is something our community has been desperate for,” he said.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with Coles and Mitchell Shire to help with the planning and we look forward to the rest of the developments happening in Beveridge to create a thriving local community.”
The store is open daily from 7am to 10pm.
