A fourth-generation birth at the Kilmore Hospital was celebrated through the arrival of baby Isabel Mills last month.

Mother, Chelsea Crump, grandmother Jenny Crump and even great-grandmother Alison Thomson were all part of the journey in a special way, as the four generations were all born at the Kilmore District Hospital.

Adding to the special celebrations, baby Isabel was named after her great-great-grandmother, Isabel Berry, who was also born somewhere in Kilmore but not at the hospital, as she was born 12 years before the Kilmore Hospital started birthing.

For Chelsea, choosing to welcome her daughter in Kilmore was always close to her heart.
“Throughout my pregnancy, I kept thinking about the connection our family has with Kilmore Hospital,” Chelsea shared.

“I always knew I wanted to give birth here and continue that tradition. There’s something incredibly special about knowing my daughter is part of that story too.”

The family’s roots in Kilmore and surrounding areas stretch back to the mid-1800s through the great-great-grandmother Isabel, whose last name at birth was Chapman, making the moment even more meaningful.

The Chapman family name is still prominent throughout Kilmore to this day.

Chelsea said the care she received throughout her journey made the experience all the more memorable.

“Having this service so close to home has been amazing, but what really stands out is the connection with the staff. They make you feel so comfortable – it truly feels like a community.”

For Grandmother Jenny Crump, welcoming her first grandchild while reflecting on the family’s long history with the hospital was an emotional moment.

“This has been such a beautiful experience for our family,” Jenny said.

“To think that four generations of our family have been born here is incredibly special. Becoming a grandmother for the first time and sharing this moment in a place that holds so much family history is something I’ll never forget.”

At the Kilmore District Hospital, baby Isabel’s arrival is not just the beginning of a new chapter, but a continuation of a story more than a century in the making.
