STATE Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage MP has secured $2 million for pedestrian safety improvements at the Beech Street and Church Street roundabout, following longstanding concerns raised by the Whittlesea community.
Residents have been calling for improvements at the roundabout for years, with pedestrian safety repeatedly raised as a concern.
Ms Kathage has heard those concerns directly from local residents and advocated for action to make the intersection safer for people moving through the Whittlesea town centre.
The $2 million funding will support pedestrian safety improvements at the roundabout, with design work now underway.
Ms Kathage said securing the funding was an important step after listening to local concerns.
“I’m really pleased to have secured $2 million to make this roundabout safer for pedestrians,” she said.
“People in Whittlesea have been raising pedestrian safety at this roundabout for a long time, and they’ve raised it directly with me.
“I listened to those concerns, took them up and pushed for action.
“This is a busy part of Whittlesea, with people moving between our shops, schools, services and the rest of the town centre.
“The design work is now underway, and I’ll keep following the project through and keep the Whittlesea community updated once timelines are released.
“That’s my job as the local MP: listen to what people are telling me, follow it up, and get things moving.”
