WARM weather is starting to impose itself meaning golf courses are drying out and conditions are getting better around the area. Some big scores, junior pennant and future events too look out for in this week’s Covering the fairways.
Golfer of the week: Gary Foley (18) wins this week’s Golfer of the week, thanks to his unbelievable 43 pointer at Hidden Valley. The great scores are starting to come in thanks to the weather, as another 43 pointer was recorded at nearby course Goonawarra as well from Brandon De Bono (18) who had 81 off the stick. Great golf from the guys!
BROADFORD’s course is shaping out nicely and allowing for some better scores recently. Over the weekend, Jason Richards (12) won it’s stableford competition, shooting 78 off the stick to beat Amanda Rees (34) in a countback. Only three over on the back meant he would hold on for victory including a big three-pointer on the final hole. The course had three scores over 40 on Saturday.
With warmer weather means more opportunity for growth in the grass, meaning clubs including HIDDEN VALLEY will start to hole punch its greens. The junior pennant team took the trip out to Goonawarra Golf Club recently, which resulted in a draw. Gary Foley (18) won the stableford competition on Saturday thanks to a huge 43 bomb. His scorecard included nine pars and a birdie which is very solid considering he is off 18, well played.
KILMORE has enjoyed a slightly quieter period after a huge couple of weeks for the club. Ian Gray and Matthew Murray were the best team out of the second round of the clubs Foursomes championship. Molly Bell (24) had a good score as well on Saturday in the Red Tee stableford competition. She won with a 36 pointer against a talented field. The club looks forward to Melbourne Cup day when it is holding a four person ambrose.
LANCEFIELD made a big announcement throughout the week as it’s starting a twilight competition every Wednesday. A new tradition for clubs, bringing more social golf to clubs inviting players to bring their mates and enjoy a couple of holes late in the day. It also held the first week of its club championships on Saturday. Mark Cruise (23) had the best nett score with a 70, while James Whitford and David Colson are narrowly behind him.
Over in ROMSEY, twilight golf is also starting to become a great inclusion for the club. Although it’s not the first year the club has done it, it continues to be a great success. Michael Squire (4) had a great score last week, shooting just +2 off the stick. A great round for a tough course. He beat Dylan Harris (5) who sought revenge in the twilight comp just days later where he had even par after nine holes to win the comp. On the weekend, Greg Hill (23) won the stableford with a 36 pointer.

Nothing beats a reality test quite like golf, throughout the week it was good to go out and shoot an almost best score for myself (+2 off the stick), to follow it up with one of my worst ever scores just days later (18 stableford points). Happy golfing!
