SEYMOUR playing co-coach Jack Murphy had the opportunity of a lifetime on Saturday as he led the Goulburn Valley League into Elsternwick Park against the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA).

Murphy was named captain of the senior team, alongside vice-captains, Benalla’s Nick Warnock and Mooroopna’s Kai Madgwick.

The Goulburn Valley League said the leaders earned plenty of respect.

“These three exceptional leaders have earned the ultimate respect of their peers and coaches alike through their relentless work ethic, elite skill, and inspiring character on the field,” they wrote.

The senior team had a strong Seymour input, with Murphy joined by teammates Dylan Cook and Nicholas Quigg.

However, it was not to be the Goulburn Valley League’s day.

Trailing by six points at the first change, the VAFA erupted in the second term to kick six goals to nil, leading by 43 points at the main break.

The Goulburn Valley League fought back in the third quarter to kick two goals and win the quarter narrowly, trailing by 42 points at the final change, before the VAFA went ballistic in the final term, kicking 10 goals to two to eventually win 20.9 (129) to 5.8 (38).

The Goulburn Valley said despite the result, they were proud.

“The buy-in from everyone involved was outstanding and reinforced just how much representative football means to our league,” they wrote.

The favour will be repaid next year when the VAFA travels to Shepparton’s Deakin Reserve next year for the Goulburn Valley League’s home game.
