The six-year-old Mikki Isle gelding finished second at Yarra Valley on December 29 before going on to win at the same track on January 13.

The win takes the Melissa Page trained gelding’s earnings to over $87,000. Tookay Pete was originally sold for $2000 at the 2021 Gold Coast National Yearling Sale.

Kilmore’s Jody Thompson had a worthwhile trip to Moe on January 25, coming away with a win with Brookers Turbo in the maiden 2400 metre race.

The five year old Pariah mare has improved steadily since being stepped up over longer distances. At the same meeting, Tabilk based trainer Saab Hassan scored with the four-year-old Yes Yes Yes gelding Positivo in the maiden 1600 metre event.

The Australia Day picnic meeting at Balnarring produced a quinella for Seymour trainer Don Dwyer with his gallopers Desert Boots and Oriental Dane fighting out a tight finish, with barely a head between them at the line.

The four-year-old Royal Meeting gelding Desert Boots is in the running for picnic horse of the year, having now had five starts at the picnics this season for four wins and a second placing.

At Kyneton on Saturday, Seymour trainer Linc Sullivan had his patience rewarded when the five-year-old gelding Vinnie’s Turn achieved his maiden victory at just his fifth raceday start.

Back at the picnics on Saturday, Don Dwyer scored with The Village Fox taking out the 1650 event in the hands of champion picnic jockey Shaun Cooper. The horse had a chequered run in the straight and did well to get across the line ahead of the field, winning by 0.15 lengths.

The horse has now had three starts for Dwyer for three wins and started the odds-on favourite.
