THE Honda Civic e:HEV L has been named Wheels Car of the Year 2025–26, standing out from hundreds of new models on sale in Australia thanks to its strong mix of efficiency, comfort and everyday driving enjoyment.

After a year of testing and a final intensive week-long judging process, Wheels experts said the Civic impressed every time they got behind the wheel, describing it as a car owners would grow to appreciate even more over time.

“The Honda Civic is a car you’ll enjoy from day one,” judges said. “Six or 12 months later, you’ll feel even better about choosing it because it just keeps delivering.”

At the heart of the Civic’s win is its clever hybrid technology. The e:HEV system pairs two electric motors with a 2.0-litre petrol engine, delivering smooth and responsive performance while using as little as 4.2 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres. Power output sits at a healthy 135kW, giving drivers plenty of punch for daily commuting and highway driving alike.

The Civic also stood out for its refined ride, quiet cabin and well-finished interior, making it equally suited to city driving, long trips or family use. Judges praised its balance of comfort and handling, saying it feels more premium than many rivals in its price range.

Honda Australia director Rob Thorp said the award highlighted Honda’s focus on building cars that are enjoyable to own as well as affordable to run.

With Honda planning to expand its hybrid range across popular models such as the CR-V and ZR-V in 2026, and introduce its first fully electric vehicle to Australia, the Civic’s win signals a strong future for buyers looking to cut fuel costs without sacrificing driving pleasure.
