Former ACK student and leading racing identity Tony Ottobre (fifth from left at front) is celebrating another fine win by Pride of Jenni at Moonee Valley on Grand Final eve.

Family members, friends, jockey trainers, and stable hands all joined in for the happy occasion.

Tony and wife Lynn have really enjoyed the ride Pride of Jenni has taken them on.

There are a number of other “Jenni’s” in the stable all named in tribute to their wonderful daughter who lost a battle with cancer far too young.

There are quite a few racing fans in the Kilmore area who follow Tony’s “tribe” – one of them Nick Wogan who is a great admirer.

LIONS TO KEEP ROARING

After their stunning victory over Geelong to make it back-to-back AFL titles, the Lions are looking for a repeat of their early 2000’s success in 2026. Pundits believe the Brisbane side can only get better given its strong list which has 22 very talented players aged 22 or less. It may be a case next season that the other 17 clubs will do battle to find an opponent for the Lions on the last Saturday in September. Three former Assumption “boys” are thrilled with the club’s success. Darryl Herrod, Laurie and Renato Serafini were all fine players for the original Lions, old Fitzroy.

Much loved veteran coach Chris Fagan worked hard to establish a strong culture at the Lions, and this has paid dividends on and off the field of play. Some Victorian clubs should refer to his play book.

Recently I visited a Murrindindi farm-about 20 kilometres south of Yea. The district is one of rolling hills and wooded valleys- picture postcard places as in the picture shown above. The horses certainly have a picturesque home to enjoy.

Gerald and Helen Hauser are the custodians of their generational property. Great people who have worked hard all their lives and raised a wonderful family.

The homestead is typical early days rural Australia, white weatherboard with wide verandah. The couple’s hospitality is a byword. Gerald, just so, like his brother Peter, a neighbouring farmer, has worked hard for more than six decades, through the good times and the bad. Gerald is resigned to having to spend much more in the months ahead, just buying feed for the stock.

WELL WORTH A VISIT

Local artist and doctor’s wife Jeannette Jain is a prolific artist. Thirty-six pieces of her fine work is on display at Kilmore’s art centre and picture framers at 44 Victoria Parade. Jeannette’s display, covering 35 years, shows a wide variety of topics and subjects. The gallery includes other artists of note. It really is an asset to Kilmore and well worth a visit.
