THE first round of the North Metro Cricket Association women’s competition started on Sunday, with some strong results.

Laurimar Black took a comfortable seven-wicket win over Research Eltham Collegians in division one.

Laurimar bowled well to restrict Research Eltham to just 4/69 off 20 overs, with Phoebe McKenna taking two wickets, before chasing down the target with three overs to spare, scoring 3/72.

South Morang Blue just missed out on taking victory over Epping, losing by three runs.

The Lions were unable to take a wicket throughout their stint on the field, with Epping making 84 runs.

In comparison, the Lions started slowly, but thanks to Emma Leatham, they had a segway into the game as she scored 31 before retiring not out.

Kristy Carbis added 17 and captain Natasha Kiper scored 11, but it wasn’t quite enough to overhaul Epping as the Lions finished on 7/81 off their 20 overs.

Laurimar Teal was no match for Rivergum in the third division game.

Laurimar couldn’t quite contain Rivergum’s batters as it made 2/138 off its 20 overs, but with the bat, Laurimar certainly had a good go of things.

Toni Rule scored 20 runs before being retired not out, while Jessica Richardson also scored well, finishing on 19 before being retired.

Laurimar would end up finishing on 4/93 off its 20 overs.

South Morang Maroon struggled to make runs in losing by 10 wickets to Baseballers.

Sandy Iyer was the top scorer for the Lions, scoring an unbeaten 14 as the Lions made 6/53 off their 20 overs.

Baseballers chased down the target in nine overs, going without loss for 56.

The second round of action sees Laurimar Black hosting Heidelberg, while South Morang Blue travels to Research Park to take on Research Eltham Collegians.

In division three, South Morang Maroon travels to Eltham Central Park to play Eltham, while Laurimar Teal hosts Macleod/Heidelberg.
