AUSNET helicopters are buzzing across local towns this week as part of the company’s annual aerial inspections, giving residents a chance to see the skies in action.
The flights, which started yesterday and will continue through to Thursday, will cover Broadford, Tallarook, Sugarloaf Creek, Waterford Park, Clobinane, Sunday Creek, Alexandra, Acheron, Taggerty, Maintongoon, Thornton, Kilmore, Bylands, Wallan, and Wandong.
These yearly inspections are an important part of AusNet’s commitment to keeping the electricity network safe and reliable. From the air, crews check around 40,000 poles and the powerlines linking them, looking for signs of wear, damage, or other issues that could cause outages.
The findings allow AusNet to plan timely repairs or replacements, reducing the risk of electricity disruptions for local communities.
While residents may notice the helicopters flying low or hear the occasional rotor noise, AusNet says there is no cause for concern. The inspections are routine, temporary, and a crucial part of maintaining the network. Residents are encouraged to stay clear of power poles and lines during this period and to report any faults they might spot on the ground.
By carrying out these checks from the air, AusNet can spot potential problems quickly and keep the electricity running smoothly, helping to ensure that local homes and businesses stay powered safely and reliably throughout the year.
