WALLAN may have bowed out of the senior football finals at the first hurdle, but it wasn’t all bad news for the Magpies, with premiership success and the reserves looking to complete an undefeated season.

On Friday night, the Magpies utilised a four-goal second quarter to whisk the Club 18s premiership away from Eynesbury at Eynesbury Recreation Reserve.

Trailing by 12 points at quarter time, the Magpies flipped the script in the second term to kick four goals to nil and led by 13 points at the main break.

After Eynesbury kicked three goals to one in the third term to make it a two-point game at the final change, the Magpies settled and kicked two goals to one to win 8.7 (55) to 7.4 (46).

Tom Knight kicked three goals, while Brenton Hanson was the Pies’ best. Bodhi Edmonds, Lachlan Gatherer, Spencer Whittingham and Graeme Torney also scored a mention in the best players.

The Magpies’ reserves remain undefeated after kicking away from Diggers Rest in the last quarter.

In an exceptionally tight game, the Magpies’ lead was no more than 10 points at any of the first three changes, but, after conceding the first goal of the final term, they powered away with the final four goals of the contest to win 8.2 (50) to 3.6 (24).

The Magpies now meet Romsey in the second semi-final as they look to try make another grand final.
