MINISTER for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos recently announced additional funding for the Regional Tourism Network Industry Strengthening (RTNIS) Program, which supports Victoria’s Economy Partnerships (VEPs) to deliver training and support regional tourism businesses.

The program aims to continue growth across Victoria’s record $40 billion visitor economy.

Under the program, VEPs will be eligible to receive up to $100,000 each in additional funding. Mr Dimopoulos hopes regional tourism businesses continue to benefit from tailored training programs that will give them the skills to grow their business and improve visitor experiences.

“We’re backing local experts to deliver targeted support for local tourism operators and support the continued growth of Victoria’s world-class tourism offerings,” he said.

Locally, the Goulburn Region Tourism (GRT) has formed a VEP and it encompasses three Local Government Authorities (LGA’s), Mitchell and Strathbogie Councils and the Greater City of Shepparton.

GRT Chief Executive, Jane Lovell told the Review that critical to the success of the organisation is the development of a unified brand to capture the regions unique appeal, strengths, and personalities.

“We are aiming to grow the visitor economy from $337 million to $500 million per year by 2030,” she said.

“We are using the assistance to support one of our Industry and marketing lead roles.”

Across the divide, the Daylesford Macedon Tourism (DMT) network is transitioning to Destination Central Victoria (DCV).

The DCV will encompass four LGA’s; Macedon Ranges, Hepburn, Mount Alexander and Central Goldfields Shire Councils.

DMT Chief Executive, Steve Wroe said the financial assistance is welcome.

“It’s deeply reassuring that our partner LGAs chose the path that we are heading down, which is essentially a geographic expansion thanks to the addition of both Mount Alexander and Central Goldfields to our patch.

“The team will remain much the same, with increases in hours for staff focussed on industry support and development, PR, and digital marketing.

“We are here to serve our industry partners through industry development programs (that are rolling out now), as well as destination marketing to ensure our region’s visitation and spend remain strong.

“The market is still challenging, as the cost-of-living burden is still suppressing some discretionary spend.

“Within the next few months, we are launching a new regional brand, new regional website, and a visitor app.”
