TRAFFIC lights will be installed at the intersection of Donnybrook Road and Mitchell Street in order to keep traffic moving around Kalkallo.

These temporary traffic lights on the southern side of the roundabout will be installed as a trial to hold traffic that has exited the Hume Freeway citybound as they approach the intersection to ease congestion in this busy area.

With the addition of these lights, vehicles travelling along Donnybrook Road will get additional breaks in the traffic which will improve traffic flow and ease congestion.

The performance of the temporary traffic lights will be monitored to assess their effectiveness and determine future decisions for the full signalisation of the intersection.

The Donnybrook Road and Mitchell Street Intersection Upgrade will also boost safety in the area, with safety barriers set to be installed around the intersection and a new bridge built over Kalkallo Creek as well as adding additional lanes at the intersection.

The upgrade will build upon benefits motorists are experiencing following the construction of a dedicated left turn slip lane in 2023 to help ease traffic congestion and provide easier access to the Hume Freeway.

Member for Kalkallo Ros Spence says it shows a funding commitment to fixing the roads around Kalkallo.

“Our community deserves the infrastructure that will provide safer and faster travel and this is what we are doing, investing in projects that build our future,” she said.
