THE 78th annual reunion of the Kyneton Marist Brothers Old Boys Association held on Australia Day was first class in many ways.

Held at the Shamrock Hotel, Michael B Halley and friends recalled that Bill Hardman, son of the owner in the 1950s, was a student taught by the Marist Brothers. A number of boys who would have been Bill’s classmates were joined by alumnus that were students before or after him.

The reunions have become family affairs, as the passing of time has reduced the membership. In the past 12 months, the association has sadly added 13 boys to the Deceased Remembrance Roll.

The records of the school have been lost, so the actual number of boys who passed through the gates at the corner of Powlett and Hutton Street is not known, but nearly 400 deaths have been identified.

The congregation consisted of members and their families, which President Roley Sandilands stated was ‘first class’, in addition to the fare and the service provided by the attentive staff. Registrants were able to select from six sumptuous and generous meals, and treated to a delightful display of members’ memorabilia.
Next year’s reunion will be the responsibility of the new committee, and as always, the group will be seeking first class candidates.
