A high quality field of entrants entered bet365 Kilmore Cup’s Fashions on the Field (FOTF) event on Sunday.

The biggest event on the Kilmore Racing Club calendar featured nine big races on the day, with punters coming from near and far to cheer at the finish post.

The track was heavy—a number eight due to overnight rain—and as a result, the FOTF event was held under cover with the drizzle keeping the fashionistas cool, calm, and collected.

Leigh Irons (Front Left) celebrated his cocktail marquee package for four prize at the bet365 Kilmore Cup with friends from the Kilmore Football Netball Club, and his wife Alice, (centre in pink) at the Kilmore Cup held at the Kilmore Racing Club in Kilmore last Sunday.

Sponsored by Georgina and Co, the FOTF competitors took part in nine different categories for a share in quality prizes, including vouchers and gift packages that could be used at the sponsor’s Broadford hair and beauty day spa to the total value of $7000.

FOTF Ambassador Casey Young said she was delighted with the day.

“A highlight has been seeing the local ladies enter, a lowlight the rain,” she said.

“We want the locals to enter and do something a bit different, have a bit of fun.”

This year’s theme was retro, and both men and women took the chance to step back in time and experiment with bold patterns, colours, and fabrics, while extravagant fascinators highlighted the past and contemporary talents of milliners.

Former jockey and media host Casey Bruce emceed the event once again, and the judging panel consisted of Karlie Owen who was crowned Best Dressed Lady at last year’s FOTF, along with Ms Young, Georgina Clydesdale, Jo Benifer, Lorraine Brennan, and Patsy Smullen from Kilmore fashion and accessories boutique Just Me Patsy.

In the main event, the Lady of the Day winner was Melissa Gregorace who flew over from Adelaide, while Bendigo’s Kelly Carty was named runner-up.

The Best Dressed Local Lady winner was Monique Burnett, with Jeanette Laffan as runner-up.

The millinery prizes were sponsored by Just Me Patsy, and Bendigo fashionista Lisa Hughes won the first prize, while Sharen Downey, who came runner-up, said she was happy to wear her 1930s vintage Chanel feather headpiece for the first time.

The fellas enjoyed dressing up too, and for the second year running, Michael McAlpine—who travelled from Richmond—won Best Dressed Gent, while Wallan Football Netball Club player Jesse Wilkes-O’Brien from Wandong placed second.
