The North Central Review is an independently owned newspaper publishing company based in Kilmore that is responsible for publishing two community newspapers each week, covering communities within the Mitchell Shire

In the spirit of generosity, the Mitchell Masonic Lodge has made a significant donation of $5000 to Love in Action (LIA) Inc. Broadford, helping to uplift those in need.

Based at the Broadford Masonic Hall, the Freemasons actively engage with their community through donations and charitable work, which is much aligned with the organisation’s brotherly principles of love, relief, and truth.

At a recent lodge meeting, LIA Broadford Chairperson Barbara Radford shared with the Freemasons the charity’s mission, highlighting the support they provided to families each and every week.

Mitchell Masonic Lodge Secretary David Atkinson said all members at the lodge were eager to donate and support the worthy cause after hearing the presentation.

“We’ve got several goals that we adhere to, and one of those is actually donating to the community or charity,” he said.

“Some people [in this community] need it, especially since times are a bit tough at the moment with interest rates up.

“People are struggling, [so] we thought we’d contribute.”

The Christmas period is one of the busiest months for LIA, who provide both food and gifts to those in need.

Ms Radford said she was ‘very appreciative’ of the donation, and noted it would support the efforts of the organisation during the season.

“The Masonic Lodge has similar values as to what we do in looking after those in need,” she said.

“It’s about supporting the families with food, and about giving them direction about where else to go for support.”

To further support the wider community, Mr Atkinson noted the Freemasons was still expanding its membership, and invited locals to join to enhance the organisation’s ability to help others through their charitable work.

“The more people who join us, the more we can do for the community,” he said.

“We are always looking for new members who are interested in developing personal skills and attributes.”
