Extreme weather in Mitchell Shire earlier this month saw the dedicated Victorian State Emergency Services (VICSES) Kilmore Unit volunteers and communities cleaning up after destructive winds.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecasted that on Monday, September 2, strong winds would sweep across the state, and they were right. VICSES units were on high alert, and when the extreme wind gusts reached up to 146 km/h, it resulted in power outages, damage to properties, and fallen trees.

Power outages impacted more than 180,000 homes, and 4300 emergency calls were made reporting damage to property and other disruptions.

The Kilmore SES unit responded to a constant stream of requests for assistance starting at 5am on Monday, not finishing until around 9pm the same day.
