Wallan’s new Vinnies store opened its doors to the community last month, struggling to shut them at 5pm as customers just kept on coming in.
The new store has already recruited 15 volunteers, and General Manager of Retail Neil Harvey thanked the volunteers and staff for their strong support.
“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful opening of our 117th op shop in Victoria. Your strong support, whether through volunteering, donating, or shopping with Vinnies, has made this milestone possible. I am truly inspired by the enthusiasm and generosity shown by the local community, especially during the first week,” he said.
With the population in Wallan set to surge from 16,000 to about 50,000 people by 2041, Mr Harvey said the community’s contribution will make a real difference in the lives of families and individuals under financial pressure.
“Thank you for joining us on this journey so that we can make a positive impact and help locals who need a bit of extra help during challenging times, with the pressure of cost-of-living and housing crises,” Mr Harvey said.
Vinnies is located at 61 High Street, Wallan, and donations can be dropped off at the Wellington Street entrance during business hours. The store is open daily from 9.30am to 5.00pm.
